Globus Online at TeraGrid 2011: More Highlights

We’ve had a great couple days since Monday… see below for session highlights and some answers to questions that arose: Our sessions on “Globus and GridFTP: What’s New in 2011” and “Using Globus Online for Reliable, Secure File Transfer” each had fantastic turnouts with over 50 people in the room! Lots of love for Globus Online following the demos in particular, where many folks familiar with the complexities in setting up Globus appreciated GO's simplicity tremendously.

Some of our team attended the Campus Bridging BOF – in fact Globus Online is already working on ways to help campuses ramp up their use of XSEDE resources. Stay tuned for an upcoming, much anticipated release related to Globus Connect that is already being tested by some early campus users. In other news, we also attended the Advanced User Support (AUSS) BOF – sounds like they are doing/planning some interesting things:

• Continuing to build on the successes of the group during TG project
• Renewing the push on gateways to expose XSEDE capabilities to broader audience
• Planning additional programs to get more engagement from campuses -- in particular:
• Program to identify and help develop innovative applications
• CI (cyberinfrastructure) Fellows Program that supports researchers

Finally, our team heard all kinds of questions on various topics like XSEDE, identity management, endpoint setup, endpoint management etc. Here are a few of the questions we heard -- we’ve posted replies to these in our FAQs.

• Can I use existing TG/XSEDE credentials to login to GO?
• How do I see error logs?
• What are my options for setting up an endpoint?
• Is there an interface for endpoint administrators to monitor what's happening with their endpoints?
• How do I make the same endpoint available to two different groups of user? (i.e, Kraken is available to TG users and is associated with TG myproxy server. How do I associate kraken with NICS myproxy server and make it available to non-TG users?)
